Vegas Strong

Description

This iconic painting commemorates the strength, loss, and sorrow of the survivors of the Las Vegas Massacre in 2017. A dark night and cityscape acts as a canvas for the figures and their lanterns of glowing light, symbolizing the lost souls, their families, and memories, a community united by remembrance. While it celebrates a community event, the painting is meant to evoke a sense of intimacy, showing a young family grieving at a memorial, at the center is a candle. This vignette allows the viewer to understand that every person lost, was in fact, an individual, and remembered for all his or her special unique qualities by loved ones. The turquoise and smoky skies create a floating network of lights like souls floating towards peace. This painting is a testament to the importance of remembering those lost to violence, and a more peaceful way in the world.
